Apple AirPods Pro 3

Apple's AirPods Pro 3 went on sale in September 2025 at $249 and remain the flagship earbuds in Apple's line. The reviews of them agree more than flagship reviews usually do.

This is a reading of eleven editorial reviews published between 15 September 2025 and 19 April 2026, including a long-term follow-up written months after launch. It rests beside two dated news reports, Apple's specification, buy and firmware pages read on 18 September 2026, one page load of a Best Buy product page, and three forum threads read as ordinary pages. No buyer review was read one by one. Nothing was tested.

Consensus

All eleven editorial reviews praise the noise cancelling, and none of them treats it as a small improvement. Apple's own page calls it the best in-ear active noise cancelling and claims up to twice the AirPods Pro 2's and four times the original's, which is the maker's claim rather than a figure any review repeated.

Six of the eleven name the eight hours of listening per charge in the earbuds, up from six on the Pro 2, and that figure is Apple's listed one. Four of the eleven single out the transparency mode, and three describe the heart-rate sensor tracking within a few beats of a chest strap.

Confidence divides by tier. Editorial is strong: eleven reviews across ten months that agree on the core. Buyers are thin: one published headline, 4.8 out of 5 from 10,447 ratings on Best Buy, which says how the product is rated and nothing about what comes up against it. The forum tier carries the loudest complaint, and a thread shows that a complaint exists rather than how far it reaches.

Recurring strengths

The noise cancelling is the reason these reviews are positive, and it is the one theme all eleven of them raise. Seven of the eleven praise the new fit and the five ear tip sizes. Six name the battery per charge. Four single out the transparency mode, and three the heart-rate sensor, two of them having checked it against a chest strap.

Recurring complaints

Six of the eleven say the best features need an Apple device, and that Android owners lose them.

Six say Live Translation is not finished. One of those counts the languages it supported at launch, and another describes it changing the sense of sentences in field testing.

Four find no way to adjust the sound at all, with no equaliser and no profiles anywhere in the experience.

Four note the ceiling on the audio itself: AAC and SBC codecs only, and Bluetooth 5.3 while rivals have moved on.

Four describe the case losing its controls, the pairing button gone and taps on the front that one reviewer kept triggering by accident.

Three name the smaller battery in the case, 24 hours with it against 30 for the Pro 2, even though the earbuds themselves last two hours longer.

Three say the deeper nozzle does not suit every ear, the strongest of them written three months into ownership.

None of the eleven mentions the complaint that runs through the owner threads we read. A static hiss, described in those threads as a white noise or a hiss, appears when noise cancelling is on and nothing is playing. Two MacRumors reports, dated 29 October and 18 December 2025, describe it and say the two firmware updates released since launch had not fixed it. Owners in an Apple Support Communities thread that runs to 94 replies report it in noise cancelling and transparency, worse in one earbud, and report replacement pairs behaving the same way. The counts there are of replies and threads, never of owners. Apple's page for noise cancelling that is not working as expected covers the AirPods Pro 3 and names covered microphones among the causes of squeals and feedback; it does not acknowledge a static fault, and a search of the consumer product recall register found no recall or service programme for this model.

Where reviewers split

The fit. Seven of the eleven praise the change; three report trouble with it. We read the two as the same change: the tip that seats more firmly in one ear presses harder on the walls of another.

The sound. Seven of the eleven call it an improvement on the Pro 2. Two call the tuning a step away from it, more bass and less detail at the top, with nothing in the app to correct it.

The case. Apple lists 24 hours with the case against 30 for the Pro 2. An Apple Support Communities thread with 262 "me too" and 29 replies collects owners who find the case draining faster than they expect, several of them reporting a replacement that behaves the same way.

The static hiss. Two MacRumors reports describe it; none of the eleven editorial reviews raises it. News gathers what gets complained about, a review written in launch week has less chance of meeting a fault that shows up in use, and no source we could read puts a number on how many units it reaches.

Who it suits

You own an iPhone and want the best noise cancelling an earbud offers. All eleven editorial reviews praise it.

You want the earbuds to carry the battery rather than the case. Six of the eleven name the eight hours per charge, and Apple lists it.

You want your heart rate during a workout without a second device. Three of the eleven describe the sensor holding close to a chest strap.

Who should pass

You use Android. Six of the eleven say the best features need Apple hardware, and one describes being unable to update the firmware at all.

You want to tune the sound yourself. Four of the eleven find no equaliser anywhere in the experience, and four name the codec ceiling; Apple's firmware added a Custom EQ on 17 September 2026, after all eleven reviews were written.

The AirPods Pro 2 already fit you and nothing about the new shape appeals. Three of the eleven describe pressure that the older model did not have.
